Midges are like tiny flies. The plural of larva is larvae.
What they look like:
Midge Larvae are very small, often C-shaped. They have
a spastic, squirming movement. They are often attached
to debris by their tiny legs.
Size:
Up to 50 mm long.
Where they live:
Like Fly Larvae, Midge Larvae are found in streams and
ponds, in water in the holes of tree trunks - anywhere
water collects.
Pollution
tolerance. Very tolerant, rating 1.
Midge Larvae can tolerate organic pollution as they
feed on the organic particles. They can live
in water having low levels of dissolved oxygen as
they can rise to the surface to breathe. |
